ABOUT THIS PIECE

The Vienna Hair Accessory works in pastel orange — petals graded from peach at the tip to cream at the base, each one veined with fine gold, set around small amethyst centres. Ivory blooms sit alongside them, and clusters of pale blue beads scatter through the golden wire between.

Each petal is shaped by hand from resin worked while still malleable, then wound onto hand-drawn copper wire. The petals are worked thin enough to stay translucent, which is why the orange reads as lit rather than painted, and the veining catches light as the head moves.

Pastel orange is a colour almost no one makes hair accessories in, and that is the reason for this piece. It is warm without being bright, and the pale blue beads keep it from tipping into a single warm note — a small cool contrast that stops the whole thing reading as one colour.
